About The Fellows Program

Leadership is transformative.
The Fellows Program is a yearlong commitment to personal leadership growth that enhances community engagement and strengthens collaboration across differences. The Fellows class year serves as a gateway to a broader network of Senior Fellows dedicated to dialogue across divides and finding innovative solutions to local issues.

ALF stands apart from other leadership programs by creating an environment that builds trust among a broad group of established leaders. These leaders are uniquely positioned to collectively and collaboratively leverage their diverse perspectives, intellectual capabilities, and the power and influence needed to create positive change in their communities.

We welcome nominees who are curious, courageous, and ready to engage in deep learning and personal transformation work. Nominees should have demonstrated leadership through achievements in their organizations — whether in the private, public, or nonprofit sectors — and possess spheres of influence and constituencies they can engage in building stronger communities.

Who we seek
Ideal candidates demonstrate:

  • Proven leadership ability evidenced by achievement in their organizations
  • Spheres of influence in which they can engage in community-building efforts
  • Commitment to Pierce County and the South Sound region through personal or professional ties
  • Willingness to challenge personal assumptions and deepen understanding of diverse perspectives

Diversity is at the core of every ALF class
The ALF Tacoma/Pierce County chapter is committed to ensuring each class reflects the professional, religious, political, ethnic, and gender diversity of the region. Each Fellow is expected to challenge their assumptions and deepen their understanding of others.

Join our network of impact
Upon completing the program, Fellows join our extensive network of over 640 Senior Fellows from 31 classes—leaders who continue to hold courageous conversations, support collaborative efforts, and work together for community benefit. This network offers ongoing peer mentorship, collective wisdom, and shared resources for those committed to leadership in the South Sound.

About ALF
American Leadership Forum was founded in Houston in 1980 by Joseph Jaworski who left his successful law practice to address what he increasingly saw as a crisis of leadership throughout the country. His vision was an organization dedicated to bringing together diverse leaders from multiple sectors to explore their personal leadership capacity, build trust, and make connections that would allow new leadership partnerships and possibilities for local communities. ALF Tacoma/Pierce County was formed in 1989 by local leaders who recognized the need for innovative, cross sector leadership to address local challenges and create a vibrant community for all. We are one of eight ALF chapters in the nation and have a local network of over 600 Senior Fellows who have completed the year-long Fellows Leadership Program.

The ALF Tacoma/Pierce County Chapter is committed to Pierce County and the South Sound region.   Our network of Senior Fellows from 31 Classes are ready to hold courageous conversations, support each other’s efforts and work collaboratively to benefit our community.
