Nomination Recruitment Booklet

To assist Senior Fellows and potential nominees in the process, we are excited to unveil the above recruitment booklet!

ALF has had only two price adjustments in its 30-year history. The first year ALF requested payment from participants for participation in the program was 2008.  And, in 2018, ALF requested a modest $1,000 increase.

ALF’s board of directors has approved a price of participation adjustment for 2023-2024.  The new price for the one-year Class XXXI program is $12,000; a $3,000 increase and the first since 2018.

Why Now?
The actual Fellows Program expense per participant is $13,900, while Fellows have been asked to pay $9,000 since 2018. Each year the ALF Board and Fund Development Committee have worked tirelessly to raise the $4,900 gap.  Sources include corporate and foundation donors, the board of directors, and the Senior Fellows Network.  Last year ALF raised a total of $199,038 in contributions from these sources.  Fellows contributed $193,119.

At the same time, ALF has experienced significant inflationary pressure in Fellows Program expenses and a price increase is necessary for ALF to remain financially durable and sustainable.

What Do Fellows Get?
The ALF Fellows Program includes 21 full program days, inclusive of a six-day residential Wilderness Retreat and a two-day residential Taking Stock Retreat. By comparison, many organizations send employees to trade conferences, leadership trainings, and DEI workshops that cost $2,500 — $7,500 (or more) for only two or three days, not inclusive of airfare and lodging.

The $12,000 investment comes with many benefits.  Fellows will develop skills and knowledge in collaborative leadership, diversity, equity, inclusion and belonging, adaptive leadership, consensus building, conflict resolution, understanding differences, difficult conversations, and negotiation. In addition, Fellows will have access to a local network of 600+ leaders and 5,000+ national network leaders, and many opportunities to grow and expand a trusted network to make our community a better place for all.

What If Prospective Fellows Cannot Afford the Price?
Cost should never be a barrier to nominate, nor to accept, ALF’s invitation to participate.  Our local ALF chapter remains fully committed to inclusivity and access.  Participants are asked to pay the minimum personal commitment of $1,500, a $500 increase, and ALF is happy to accommodate payment plans for this amount. In addition, thanks to the benevolence of our incredible Senior Fellows, board, and corporate and foundation partners, ALF will continue to offer generous scholarships to keep the program accessible to all in our community invited to participate, regardless of their ability to fully fund their participation.  We are the only chapter in the ALF network to offer this level of scholarships and are committed to remaining needs blind.
